Finally back from our road trip around the UK, it feels like we were there much longer than 10 days. This part of the trip took us from Stratford-upon-Avon to Newcastle, and back home again. We packed in a lot of sights and experiences, to be chronicled on the blog shortly. In the meantime, here are the past weeks highlights in graphical form, with short comments on each.
Visited the Morgan Motor Company factory in Great Malvern today. Great experience and wonderful factory tour. Massive Morgan lust now! Great to see proper made in Britain cars, though sadly Morgan is now the largest British car maker, and only makes 200 a year, including the ridiculously ace three-wheelers… #dadstyle #cars #morgan
Visited Manchester today. Walking behind a group of younger men made me question my perception of menswear. Were they serious or dressed up? In the same vein, Oi Polloi must be the worst shop around. This is the second time I've been in and the staff were as unbelieveably inattentive as the first time. Why even bother having staff? #dadstyle #oldman #grumpy #oipolloi #manchester
Spent half a day in historic Knutsford, proud of Viking heritage (celebrating years of being raped and pillaged) and having a MacLaren sportscardealership. Obviously a place of some wealth, ripe for a re-plundering. Viking mural on the street matched the logo on an old Rover P6 in the car park. Found a brilliant penny-farthing museum in a backyard. Also a cafe. Splendid! Obligatory photo pretending the Rolls Royce is mine. #dadstyle #knutsford #rover #viking
The final push Northwards saw us visiting the Lake District for a brief peek. Lake Windermere was nice, but the small towns were totally overrun with visitors, so we didn't stay long. We took some small roads and discovered more rural goodness. And arrived in Newcastle to meet Nobby. #dadstyle #uktour #newcastle
Keeping busy! On our way from the Lake District to Newcastle we took in Hadrians Wall and an ancient Roman fort. Then to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Ghe way the wind has worn the stone walls of the priory was incedible. An inspiring and important place. And we got out just before the tide closed the road. #dadstyle #uktour #hadrianswall #lindisfarne
