When it comes to the world of art I find myself at a bit of a loss. It pains be a bit, to be quite frank, as I don’t like to be an ignoramus. Most of what is termed art just leaves me wondering though. The photo-realistic oil paintings by the old masters are very impressive stuff, but other art, where there is no apparent skill, or craft involved leaves me feeling conned. So I don’t tend to visit galleries and the like, unless WellDressedGirlfriend shames me into going. I like engineering, tools, mantiques, vintage cars, as in real, proper stuff.
The actual art I like though is street art. The stuff you’ll see on walls around cities, if you pay attention and have a roving eye. Think Banksy, if you’re not getting it. While I love Banksy’s work, there is lots more out there, you just need to keep an eye out.
This Spring I spent a day wandering around the streets of Shoreditch, London, and took a lot of photos there. If you like street art, I recommend Shoreditch, there is a lot to see there. What follows is part 1 of a selection of the ones I liked best.
